"Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all." - Aristotle
My name is Adrianna Wiley and ever since I could remember, teaching has forever been my passion. This is my third year pursuing English Education at California State University, Chico. I thrive to be able to have the ability to help others gain new knowledge and to become a better human being, which is why I chose to become an English teacher. While exploring through my college years, I decided to take up a minor in Linguistics, while also going through courses to receive a TESOL certificate. I created this website to present to you some of the work that I have produced throughout my college years. I hope to take you on a journey of glimpses of my writing processes and other works I collected that reflect a few of my passions.
I now work on campus at CSU, Chico, at the Department of History and English, as a student assistant. I also am the Treasurer for a club here on campus called the Student California Teachers Association.
During the summer of 2018, I will be working with the Summer Bridge EOP Program and Early Start Program here at Chico State. These programs assist incoming freshman students with adjusting from the high-school to college setting, while also preparing them for college math and English courses.
During my middle school years and all the way up to my senior year in high school, I managed to have the opportunity to work with children at Eden Lutheran Preschool in Riverside, California. Even though the children were preschoolers, and I wish to teach high school students, having that experience truly jump started and strengthened my passion to want to become an educator. I also used to be an AVID (Advanced, Via, Individual, Determination) tutor for sophomore, high school students, where I assisted them in developing mandatory skills for higher education. During my sophomore year in college, I felt truly lucky enough to have the opportunity to go to one of the local high schools here in Chico, and observe the classroom environment. Now during my third year, I have to opportunity to be a mentor in an English 130 workshop, where I help guide students through their writing processes. These experiences and the many others that I have accomplished have only prepared me for the various, necessary skills that I must acquire in order to be a successful teacher.
